A Virtual World of Infotainment :)

Dear Men,
If you think that Women are meant only for serving you and your family in this society, please watch Bigil this Diwali along with women of your family...

*Spoiler free review*

The movie is not like the previous outings of Vijay and Atlee.
The film is rich in its emotions and there's a little amount of action too.
Atlee breaks the movie into two halves, an action-packed first half and an emotional second half.

The film has got nothing to do with football, it was just used as a medium to spin the story around! So, please bear with it football fans!

The first half is purely for Vijay's Nenjil kudiyirukkum (heart dwelling) fans, where Vijay appears in dual roles, as a Rogue father (Rayappan) who fights for his people's peace and a football playing son (Michael) who mastered the game.
Whenever they appear in a frame together, it is a treat for fans to watch and would go for Bigils (whistles) for sure.
Rayappan's character will be one of the memorable ones in Vijay's career!

Nayanthara (Angel Ashirvadham) travels with Vijay throughout the movie and managed to score in few places beautifully well.

Jackie Shroff (Sharma) appears as a corrupt National football selector, who can threaten and get scared away easily. Could have been more powerful!

Kathir plays the coach of Women's football team, for namesake, who managed to perform within a boundary, laying down and sitting in the chair. This talented actor should have been given more space!

The girls (Singapengal) raised the second half of this sports drama!
Some characters like Pandiyamma, Thendral, Anitha, Vembu and Gayathri attracted our attention.

The other actors like Yogi Babu, Vivek, Anandhraj, Daniel Balaji, IM Vijayan (once a football player of Indian team), Gnanasambandham, Devadarshini, the cute little girl in Michael's home did their job without any compromises.

Madhare and Singapenney were the powerful songs that summed up the film.

Muthuraj's tireless efforts should be appreciated with awards for erecting such massive stadiums!

The lightings coloured the action and song sequences. Especially, Singapenney song was extraordinary!

The Vfx worked almost near perfection, but, still the money matters.

GK Vishnu captured the stadium from top angle beautifully and, each and every shots were very lively, that easily played with our emotions. Raised his bar!

Ruben's editing didn't make us feel the length of the film and the slo-mo portions in the football ground came out well.

AR Rahman's background score is the soul for the movie!
His emotional driven music kept us engaged with the film till the end.
His guest appearance was unexpected and crowd went crazy on seeing him on-screen!
That local tingles with folk chorus, Hey chants and his own voice-fillers (especially 'Agnichirage...' at the climax) lit the movie.
The Bigil would be incomplete without ARR!

Atlee hits the bull's eye yet again!
He proves himself as a proud student of Director Shankar.
His film making matures year after year and right now, he can lift his collar and say that he is best commercial directors in the industry!
In the Madhare song, a small burning newspaper bit saying that India is 108th in the list of World's safest country for Women was seen and that shows his love for filmmaking.
The scenes that involves Gayathri and Anitha just before the Singapenney song were brilliant and that's all about this movie!

The importance of education and sports is instilled well.
I would always imagine how a director of this age can pull off big budget blockbusters that easily?

Hats off to Atlee and the entire Bigil Team!!!

Blurb: Bigil is an emo-actional sports drama purely dedicated to (Pullingo) Women!

Sex Education

Netflix's latest sensation Sex education season 1 released on 11 jan 2019 consists of 8 episodes each of having a duration around 47 - 55 mins.

Here is my take after watching the classic teen sex comedy drama Sex education.

Plot :

The show lead character Otis a 16 year old virgin played by Asa Butterfield, socially awkward teen who "wants to the guy in the corner that no one knows in the school" and dislike masturbating. His mom being a  SEX THERAPIST talks about all the teen sex related advice to his son. otis best friend is a gay played by Nucti gatwa. Maeve a bold and confident girl one day finds that otis have ability to give a effective advice to others about their sex life, so she team up with otis to give sex advice to other students in the school to earn money.

 1. OTIS MILBURN  AND Dr.JEAN

Otis character is like a guy we all have in our friends group who is too innocent. His acting was very natural and all the portion of otis and maeve worked really well the pair looks awesome, throughout the series we all be await for the moment when will otis propose maeve. Jean his mother is more comical and at times of sentiment scenes with his son she easily adopt and change the mood of the character. She is fun to watch.

2. MAEVE WILEY

Maeve played by Emma Mackey, yeah she look alike margot robbie. Mave character development graph was really astonishing, how she changes from episode 1 to 8 was interesting. Started of as a bold independent girl as the series goes on her other side of life. (Spoiler ahead!)Especially their is a scene about baby abortion and her feelings about otis she acted too great in those scenes. Everyone will fall in love her and otis characters after watching this series.

3. ERIC EFFIONG

ERIC, mannnnnnn this guy deserves an Oscar for his acting skills in this series. Since he played as GAY character he didn't just copy the mannerism of gay he reallly lived as a gay. Initially he played like a comedian who helps his best friend but after a particular incident happened on his birthday their after his character arc was changed rapidly and shows all the practical difficulties that a gay should face in this society even in the 21st century. Eric is one of the character you won't forget easily in your lifetime.

4. Technical Brilliance

The series starts with the song muddy waters - mannish boy, there after there are lot of retro songs were placed in the series i really loved the song that will be played on the prom night called restless year. Cinematography was also great the really use the palette well throughout the series like pink red and bluish colors mostly it was such pleasant to see on screen.Dialogue writing is flawless especially there is a prom scene where otis speech is simply great.

It's not a entire comedy genre series, it have lot of emotions and talks about modern teen boys and girls issue not only that it handles the sensitive things smoothly not in a vulgar manner.

So that's the end of my short note on Sex education, It is like the series that you can watch it multiple times.

FYI : Netflix confirms that Season 2 is already in the making :-)

Petta had its theatrical release on January 10!
The film has set the box office in fire and continuing its successful run across the globe.
Petta is a tribute more than a movie, "For the Rajini Fans, By the Rajini Fans, Of the Rajini Fans"!

Many claimed that, the first half was Rajini's film and the latter half was Karthik Subbaraj's.
Every Thalaivar fan will get rajinified easily, on seeing the "Superstar" title card itself!
A big hug and canteen scene salute (from Petta) for Karthik Subbaraj for bringing the vintage Thalaivar on-screen!
I bet, no other actor is going to get a film like this one..!

*Spoiler alert*
Those who didn't watch the movie yet, can read this article, once you complete watching the film...

As I mentioned that Petta is a tribute earlier, here are some moments in Petta, that were recreated from the previous Rajini's films...

Title card
That vintage Title card with Annamalai movie's background score, makes us feel nostalgic and gives us instant goosebumps!

Sun and the Star
The scene, where Rajini travels to hostel in a truck, is seen sleeping with a book covering his face, lit by the light of the sun, is inspired from Chandramukhi, where Rajini comes in a bullock cart!

The name 'Kaali'
This is one of the famous on-screen character's name for Rajini after 'Raja', a frequent one!

Lalala
He jump-walks in joy, and sings 'Lalala' after getting the Hostel warden job, which is inspired from Muthu!

Paambu (Snake) joke
In his few previous films, Rajini's character suffers from Ophidiophobia (fear of snakes), the character goes speechless, sometimes manages to say 'Pa...Pa' after seeing the snake. But in the film Padayappa, Rajini takes the snake in hand and kiss it. In Petta, Rajinikanth scares out Munishkanth by shouting, 'Paambu...Paambu'!

Marana Mass song
This rocking intro song, is sung by Anirudh Ravichander and the legendary SPB, who has crooned for maximum number of Rajini's introduction songs! The dance steps were choreographed beautifully, which were Rajini's vintage dance moves, indeed. The lyrics of the song suits him well!

Climbing down the stairs
He gets a rousing welcome by the freshers, with party poppers blasting around, while he climbs down the stairs, which is inspired from Baashha, when Manik Baashha climbs down the stairs and receives the same sort of welcome!

Rolling chair
Rajini pulls Michael's father, sitting in a rolling chair to him and advises him, which looked similar to a scene in Baashha, where Rajini sits in a rolling chair, rolls towards an enemy and advises him.

Baby in the Train
In Petta, wife of Rajini's friend Maalik gives birth to a baby boy in the train, which is inspired from the film Thalapathi, where Rajini (baby) is abandoned and placed in a goods train by his mother.

Musical instruments
Rajini plays Mouth organ in the song 'Ullaallaa', which he used previously in the film Padayappa. He also plays a Mandolin (not sure) in the same song, which he used in the song 'Ra Ramaiya' from the movie Baashha.

Opening the gate
The way, Rajini opens the gate is exactly same, as how he opened the gate in his debut film 'Apoorva Raagangal'!

Saved by his child
In the climax gun fight, at one instance, Vijay Sethupathi (Rajini's son-for-sometime) saves Rajini from getting hit by a bullet, that looked similar to a scene from Kabali, where Rajini is saved by his daughter Dhanshika.

Climax song
In the climax, Rajini dances for the song 'Raman Aandaalum' from Mullum Malarum, one of the best movies of Rajinikanth. An another interesting fact is that, Rajini's name is Kaali in this film too!

Characters
Saro (name of Trisha's character) is inspired from Sarojini (character from Thillu Mullu), Rajini's love interest, who was called Saro in short, by Rajini.
Anwar (name of Sananth's character) is inspired from Anwar Baashha (character from Baashha), friend of Rajini, who gets killed infront of Manikkam (Rajini), later then, Manikkam changes his name as Manik Baashha.

Body language
His style, charisma and energy didn't fade off from him though he is in his 60's (like how, Ramya Krishnan says in the movie Padayappa). When I looked at Thalaivar in Petta, I wondered whether Thalaivar's age has come down or my age has got reduced!
The way he shuffles his hair, his humorous talk, the words he use to call people (like 'Kuzhandhai', 'Kanna'), his thunderous laugh, the way he wipes his tears, his amulet (the kappu, which he worn previously in Padayappa), the way he wears his sunglasses, the way he brings on fire from nowhere, and so on.

The Star symbol
In Petta, the Star sign was used in some objects like the party flag of Singaar Singh and the green truck provided by Bobby Simha's dad.

Likewise, there are lot of things, that can be listed out here, which is inspired from our one and only Thalaivar 'Superstar' Rajinikanth!

Bonus Read
Shades of Jigarthanda

Though, Petta is filled with 100% Rajinism, there were some frames, that reminds us of Karthik Subbaraj's comedy-gangster movie 'Jigarthanda'!
Here are some Jigarthanda moments from 'Petta'.,

Cast
Most of the supporting actors like 'Aadukalam' Naren, Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha, Guru Somasundaram, Ramachandran Durairaj, Thennavan were previously seen in Jigarthanda.

Blackboard
In Jigarthanda, the protagonist draws three monkeys and a lion in the blackboard and names them as antagonists. Here, Rajini does the same, but, only with three monkeys!

Malardhum Malaradha song
This particular song was used in the background of both the films., In Jigarthanda, the song is played during the filming of an assassination scene and in Petta, the song is played in a radio, when Rajini waits for the arrival of local goons to fight!

Street side chat
In Jigarthanda, the protagonist and an old man have a conversation in an empty-road pavement during night time, near the closed shops and the same frame is set in Petta, where Rajini and Vijay Sethupathi have a chat. Both of the scenes are the turning points in the respective movies!

Besides these factors, the dialogue "Sirappana Tharamaana Sambavam", Benz car, colorful lighting were the other things, which were found to be similar in both the movies of Karthik Subbaraj!
